What is a pilling tester?

The Pilling Tester, or ICI Pilling Tester, Pilling Box, is a test of the pilling of fabrics, especially wool knits, under stress-free conditions. The sample mounted on a polyurethane tube rolled randomly at a constant rotational speed in a cork-lined wooden case. After a specified number of tumbling, pilling and pilling performance is evaluated with a visual description.
