Overview of High-Concern Testing Items
Test 1: Overall Length Deviation (GB/T 8939-2018)
The allowable overall length deviation range for sanitary napkins/pads is ±4%. The standard specifies a detailed measurement method: use a ruler to measure the total length of the sample (from the longest point), accurate to 1 mm. Test six samples of the same specification, sourced from at least two sales packages, with at least two samples taken from each package.
Test 2: Absorption Speed
Absorption speed directly affects user experience. GB/T 8939-2018 requires an absorption speed ≤60 seconds — meaning that 5 mL of standard synthetic test solution must be fully absorbed within 60 seconds. Testing has shown that high-quality sanitary napkins often achieve full absorption within 10 seconds.
Test 3: Migratory Fluorescent Substances
Some consumers use household fluorescent detection pens to check for optical brighteners, but this method is not scientifically reliable. GB/T 8939-2018 requires cutting out suspicious fluorescent areas after initial testing, extracting them with an extraction solution, soaking pure cotton gauze, and then testing for "migratory" fluorescent substances under specified ultraviolet wavelengths.
Test 4: pH Value Testing
If the pH value of a sanitary napkin is weakly acidic, it more closely resembles the human skin environment. An acidic environment is unfavorable for the growth of most pathogenic microorganisms. GB/T 8939-2018 requires pH to be between 4.0 and 9.0.
Test 5: Microbiological Testing
If sanitary napkins contain pathogenic microorganisms (such as E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, etc.), they may cause gynecological inflammation. GB 15979-2024 specifies:
Total bacterial count: ≤200 CFU/g
Total fungal count: ≤100 CFU/g
E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pyogenes must not be detected.
